Remote SQL Server DBA Services
Our remote DBA services keep your SQL Servers healthy, patched and secure, without hiring another DBA. Senior specialists who know your environment take care of patching, monitoring and the questions your team has no time for, with security built in from the start.
When a remote DBA team makes sense
- You have no full-time DBA, or one DBA who can’t cover everything.
- Patching falls behind: cumulative updates and security updates wait because nobody has time to test and roll them out.
- You inherited SQL Servers that nobody fully knows.
- You need someone to respond outside business hours.
- Auditors ask about patch levels, backups and privileged access, and the answers take days to collect.
How it starts
Every plan begins with a SQL Server Health Check, and it is part of the plan, not an extra. We get to know your environment, and you get a prioritized fix list from day one.
What every plan includes
A plan built around your environment
There are no fixed packages to squeeze into. Together we put your plan together from what you need:
- Coverage: business hours, after hours or 24/7.
- Standby hours: how many senior expert hours you want each month.
- Security checks: how often we run Delta-Checks and permission reviews.
- Patching scope: SQL Server only, or Windows too.
- Add-ons: for example SQL Server Auditing & Activity Monitoring.
Plans run for a year. The price depends on the size of your estate and the coverage you choose, and you get a written proposal before anything starts. Remote by default.
Business hours or 24/7
You choose the coverage you need: business hours, after hours, or around the clock. With 24/7 coverage, a person responds to alerts at any hour, within the response time agreed in your support plan. No alert waits in a mailbox until Monday.
Why a security-focused DBA team
Most remote DBA services keep the lights on. We do that too. What sets us apart is the depth of our security checks. Most tools stop at a list of sysadmin members. Our checks follow how permissions, ownership chains, impersonation and linked servers combine, the way an attacker would use them, and flag where a low-privileged login can reach far more than intended.
These checks come from our SQL Server Security Assessment, built by Andreas Wolter, a former Microsoft Senior Program Manager for SQL Server security and one of only seven Microsoft Certified Solutions Masters (MCSM): Data Platform. With a plan, they run regularly and show how your security posture changes: new logins, new permissions and changed settings are flagged in the next check, not years later in an audit.
We can also set up professional auditing for your SQL Servers, customized to your needs. See SQL Server Auditing & Activity Monitoring.
Need help with a single project instead? See Upgrades and Migration, Server Consolidation, Performance Tuning, High Availability or the Security Assessment.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a remote DBA team or consulting hours?
If you need ongoing care, such as patching, monitoring and someone who knows your environment when something breaks, a plan fits. For a single project, such as an upgrade, a performance problem or a security audit, a fixed-scope project fits better. You can start with a project and move to a plan later.
What does 24/7 cover?
With 24/7 coverage, a person responds to alerts at any hour, not just an automated notification. Response times are agreed in your support plan.
Do you patch the operating system too?
Yes, Windows too, if you want. We roll out SQL Server and Windows updates together in your maintenance windows, so one team keeps track of what was installed and when.
Who has access to our servers?
Only the senior specialists named in your support plan, through an access path your team approves. If your policies require US-based staff only, tell us, and we agree the coverage that fits. We also serve customers in Europe, with staff in Germany.
What happens in an emergency?
As a support customer, you get priority. Contact us, and we start with what is down and what has changed. Because we already know your environment, we skip the discovery phase that slows down outside help. See SQL Server Emergency Recovery for what to do in the first hour.
Can we keep our own DBA?
Yes. We can back up your DBA, cover vacations and after-hours, or take over specific tasks such as patching or security checks.
What do remote DBA services cost?
Plans run for a year and are priced by the size of your estate: the number of instances and how much coverage you need. You get a written proposal before anything starts.
